The story of Seattle Envelopes began more than 10 years ago.
Projection equipment: slide projectors, presentations, overhead projectors, and computer projectors.
Nelli has volunteered for various organizations since she was in college, but volunteering took on a special meaning in February 2024. As the war in Ukraine started, Nelli brought the force of Seattle Envelopes to the forefront of a community drive to collect medical supplies and humanitarian goods to be sent to Ukraine.
In March 2022, she went to the Romanian-Ukrainian border with Cash for Refugees (a Boston-based non-profit) to help Ukrainians crossing the border become oriented in their next steps. In April 2024, Nelli joined a team of volunteers at the Bucharest airport, seeing that thousands of refugees needed help to fly out of Romania to countries that were providing shelter to them. This is how Project Peppa was born.
Soon, American volunteers from Seattle and other U.S. locations joined the effort online and on-site, working 16-hour shifts to staff the help center 24/7. Nelli led the initiative, fundraising back in Seattle to buy food and plane/train tickets for refugees, as well to cover expenses such as emergency housing, covid testing and documentation fees for multiple families daily. Project Peppa closed in April 2023, but Nelli's ties with refugee efforts in Bucharest and Montenegro (another major resettlement point for Ukrainian refugees) continuе.
