The Seattle Envelopes are starting their tenth season of meetings for teenagers and adults. On May 8th at 6 PM (18:00), Masha Shunko, a professor at the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, will discuss what business school professors do and what they teach. Masha will answer all questions about studying at business school.
Masha received her Ph.D. in Operations Management and Operations Research from Carnegie Mellon University; after working at Purdue University for four years, she joined the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in 2015 and now serves as the James D. Currie, CPA Endowed Associate Professor of Operations Management. Masha’s research includes pioneering work in optimization of global supply chains inconsideration of international taxation, and studies of behavioral aspects of service systems.
Masha stays actively engaged with industry professionals and her research work is highly motivated by practical applications. Her research has appeared in top academic journals including Management Science, M&SOM, and POM, and been featured in popular media outlets such as Scientific American, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Harvard Business Review. She holds editorial positions at M&SOM, POM, and Decision Sciences journals.
Masha is a passionate teacher recognized by multiple teaching awards at Purdue University and at the Foster School, including the PACCAR award in 2020. She has consulted Caterpillar, JD Power, Microsoft, and several medical organizations including Mayo Clinic. She is the Vice president of the Board of Directors at the newly founded Seattle Universal Math Museum.
Masha lives in Issaquah, WA with her two teen-aged children, a dog, a cat, and a gecko. She is an avid yoga practitioner and certified yoga instructor who also enjoys hiking, skiing, skating, and paddle-boarding.
